The importance of education was ingrained in Terry Owens by a nurturing community of teachers and coaches.
While on an athletic scholarship to Alabama A&M University, his undergraduate professors encouraged Terry to pursue his Bachelor of Science in Education. This is where he developed and grew his passion to teach.
“It’s from these relationships, I saw firsthand the need for more diversity in schools. My natural curiosity presents itself in the classroom with an unique ability to cater to various learning styles. It’s always my hope that I can ignite a light or a thirst for learning,” says Owens.
When you invite Terry Owens into your classroom each student will leave with a better understanding of energy and energy efficiency concepts that they’ll apply around their home. They’ll know that we at Georgia Power not only provide power but serve their community.
He is passionate about creating environments of collaboration and engagement for both teachers and their students.
Prior to joining Georgia Power, Terry taught at an Atlanta Public Charter School. As an educator, Terry collaborated with community-based organizations to create learning opportunities for students outside of the classroom.
In addition to teaching, Terry has been involved with several non-profit organizations that promote workforce readiness skills for students throughout Metro Atlanta.
He serves Dekalb County and Decatur City Schools as a Learning Power Education Coordinator.
You may be surprised to know that Terry is a documentarian in addition to being a passionate educator.
